How I tested each AI

I gave each AI the same prompt: 'Plan a 10-day trip to Rajasthan for a couple in December, budget 60,000 INR each, mid-range comfort'. Then a refinement: 'Add one hidden gem and remove the most touristy stop'. Judged on realism, INR accuracy, map awareness, and usefulness of the final output.

Claude (Sonnet 4 and Opus 4)

• Writing quality: excellent. Descriptions feel like a human wrote them.
• Hallucination rate: low. Fewer invented hotels than ChatGPT.
• INR budget accuracy: middling. Gives ranges but not per-day breakdown.
• Map awareness: none. Text only.
• Refinement: strong. Handles 'add one hidden gem, remove the touristy one' cleanly.
• Cost: free on Claude.ai up to a soft daily limit, Claude Pro at $20/mo.

Claude is the best general-purpose LLM for India travel writing. Its descriptions read well and it holds context better than ChatGPT. But it still cannot render a map or produce a persistent, editable trip.

ChatGPT (GPT-4 / GPT-4o / o1)

• Writing quality: good but sometimes cliched.
• Hallucination rate: moderate. Invented one Jaipur hotel in the test.
• INR accuracy: soft, vague ranges.
• Map awareness: none.
• Refinement: sometimes forgets earlier constraints.
• Cost: free tier weak, ChatGPT Plus at $20/mo.

ChatGPT is fine for open-ended brainstorming and questions like 'is October good for Rajasthan?'. Weaker for producing a full end-to-end itinerary you can act on.

Gemini (Google's AI)

• Hallucination rate: low, especially with Google Search grounding.
• INR accuracy: better than the others when it grounds in current search.
• Map awareness: none in the chat, but easy to jump to Maps separately.
• Refinement: decent but shorter memory than Claude.

Gemini's advantage is fresh grounding via Google Search. If a hotel exists on Booking.com, Gemini is more likely to name it correctly than Claude or ChatGPT.

Winnie

• Writing quality: warm, India-specific voice. Uses local phrasing correctly.
• Hallucination rate: low. Uses neighborhood-style descriptions when uncertain instead of inventing names.
• INR accuracy: strong. Per-experience and per-city cost breakdowns.
